  • Georgia, Fiji, and Chile confirmed for new U20 series
  • City Park to host three international match days

Cape Town’s rugby calendar is about to get even busier as some of the world’s best young rugby talent prepares to arrive in the Mother City for a brand-new international tournament that could shape this year’s Junior World Championship.

Junior Springboks supporters have plenty to look forward to later this month after SA Rugby confirmed that Cape Town will host a brand-new international under-twenty rugby series featuring four emerging rugby nations.

The tournament will see South Africa welcome the under-twenty sides of Georgia, Fiji, and Chile for three double-header match days at City Park Stadium later this month.

For the Junior Springboks, the series offers one final competitive opportunity to fine-tune combinations, test squad depth, and build momentum before defending their title at the Junior World Championship in Georgia in June.

Head coach Kevin Foote says meaningful game time remains one of the most important parts of preparation.

“We know game time out on the field in actual matches is crucial as we prepare for the Junior World Championship,” Foote said.

He added that every player in the wider squad will be considered as the coaching team continues building combinations ahead of the international tournament.

The action gets underway on the twenty-first of May, followed by fixtures on the twenty-sixth and thirty-first of May, with Cape Town once again proving why it remains one of South Africa’s leading rugby destinations.

The juxtaposition of the Junior Springboks hosting a series against the backdrop of the Western Cape’s critical fuel and infrastructure crisis is incredibly striking. While the sporting event brings excitement, the concurrent warnings about energy shortages and the ruling on unlawful tariffs highlight how vital emergency readiness must be for the region’s stability.
