Engines will roar and tyres will burn this weekend as Killarney International Raceway hosts its popular Drag Day, promising a full day of high-speed racing and entertainment for motorsport fans and families alike.

Set to take place on Saturday, Killarney’s Drag Day is expected to draw a strong crowd as drivers and spectators gather for one of the most energetic events on the local motorsport calendar.

The event features a wide range of vehicles, from purpose-built drag racers with highly modified engines to street cars and superbikes, all competing in straight-line sprints that test speed, reaction time and mechanical precision.

Drag racing at Killarney is known for its unpredictable nature, where each run can deliver surprises, whether through mechanical performance, driver skill or split-second decisions at the start line.

The iconic “Christmas Tree” start system will once again set the tone for the action, counting down to explosive launches as competitors push their machines to the limit over short distances.

Organisers say the format is designed to keep spectators engaged throughout the day, with multiple classes ensuring a steady flow of racing and a variety of vehicles on display.

Beyond the racing itself, the event has been positioned as a family-friendly outing, with food stalls, refreshments and designated play areas for children available on site.

This combination of high-adrenaline sport and accessible entertainment has made Killarney Drag Day a regular attraction for both dedicated motorsport enthusiasts and casual visitors.

Gates open in the morning, with the programme running through to the late afternoon, allowing attendees to experience a full day of activity.

Ticket pricing has been structured to remain accessible, with discounted rates for younger visitors and free entry for younger children, encouraging families to attend.

With favourable weather conditions expected, organisers are anticipating a strong turnout as Cape Town residents look for weekend activities that offer both excitement and value.

As engines line up and the lights count down, Killarney once again prepares to deliver a day where speed, sound and spectacle take centre stage.
