  • Stellenbosch lose two key players before Pirates clash
  • Tshegofatso Mabasa unavailable against parent club
  • Defender Thabo Moloisane suspended for crucial fixture
  • Athlone Stadium officially sold out for the match

Stellenbosch FC’s preparations for one of their biggest matches of the season have suffered a significant setback after the club confirmed it will be without two important players ahead of tonight’s sold-out Betway Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates at Athlone Stadium.

The Winelands club heads into the high-pressure encounter facing both squad disruption and growing pressure as they continue fighting for a top-eight finish in the league standings.

One of the biggest blows for Stellenbosch comes with the absence of striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, who is unavailable to face Orlando Pirates due to a clause included in his loan agreement with the Soweto club.

The twenty-nine-year-old forward joined Stellenbosch during the January transfer window and has quickly become an important part of the squad’s attacking structure.

Since arriving at the club, Mabasa has scored four goals in fifteen appearances, including an important equaliser against league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in recent weeks.

His absence removes one of Stellenbosch’s most effective attacking options ahead of a match expected to attract major attention from supporters across Cape Town.

At the same time, coach Gavin Hunt will also be forced to make defensive adjustments after influential defender Thabo Moloisane was suspended for the fixture.

The suspension leaves Stellenbosch with fewer experienced defensive options against one of the league’s strongest attacking sides.

Attention is now turning toward Belgian defender Henry Stanic, who could return to the starting eleven after spending several recent matches on the bench following Gavin Hunt’s appointment earlier this year.

Stanic initially impressed supporters after arriving in South Africa under former coach Steve Barker, but has struggled for regular game time in recent weeks.

Club officials have meanwhile urged supporters attending the fixture to arrive at Athlone Stadium early after confirming that all tickets for the match have officially sold out.

No tickets will be available at the gates, with officials expecting heavy traffic and large crowds around the venue before kickoff.

The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm as Stellenbosch attempt to strengthen their push for a top-eight league finish against one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs.
