Comic Con Cape Town is moving to a bigger home in 2027 as organisers confirm that the growing pop culture and gaming festival will shift to CTICC 1 from 24 to 27 April, with the larger single-level venue expected to improve visitor flow, accessibility, crowd movement and exhibitor space after record attendance and strong fan feedback showed that the Cape Town edition had outgrown its previous layout.

Comic Con Cape Town is moving to a bigger venue in 2027, marking the next stage in the growth of one of the city’s most popular entertainment and pop culture events.

Organisers have confirmed that Comic Con Cape Town 2027 will take place from 24 to 27 April 2027 at CTICC 1. The move gives the event more space and shifts the festival into a single-level venue designed to make the experience easier for fans, exhibitors and partners.

The official Comic Con Africa website now lists Comic Con Cape Town 2027 for CTICC 1, confirming the venue and dates for next year’s Cape Town edition.

The decision follows strong growth in attendance and increasing pressure on the event’s previous layout. Earlier reporting by NovaNews / TygerBurger said organisers had already indicated that the Cape Town edition had outgrown its previous space after drawing about 34,000 visitors this year.

Carol Weaving, Managing Director of RX Africa, said at a previous press briefing that the event had outgrown the venue and would move across to CTICC 1, which offers more space. Her comments made clear that the move was not cosmetic. It was a response to the scale of the event and the demand from fans.

Show Director Carla Massmann said the move represented an important step in the continued evolution of Comic Con Cape Town. She said CTICC 1 would allow organisers to build a more seamless and accessible experience while expanding what they could offer to fans, exhibitors and partners.

That statement goes to the heart of the upgrade. Comic Con Cape Town has grown into more than a niche fan gathering. It now pulls together gaming, anime, comics, cosplay, film, collectibles, esports, tabletop gaming, artists, international guests, local creators and major brand activations.

The move to CTICC 1 is expected to improve accessibility, visitor flow and crowd movement by bringing the event into a larger unified exhibition space. Previous editions used multi-level layouts, which created more pressure on navigation and movement as visitor numbers increased.

The larger venue also creates room for more exhibitors, gaming experiences, cosplay features, fan activations and partner stands. That matters for the event’s long-term commercial growth because major festivals depend on both ticket sales and exhibitor participation.

Capitec is expected to return as headline sponsor for the second consecutive year, according to event reporting. The bank’s involvement points to the growing value of youth culture, gaming, digital communities and lifestyle events as brand spaces.

For Cape Town, the event also has an economic angle.

At this year’s edition, City of Cape Town Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said major events play an important role in keeping the city’s economy moving. He said Cape Town’s top signature events generate billions of rand for the city economy, with benefits flowing through businesses linked to events, film and tourism.

That wider value is important. Comic Con Cape Town does not only bring fans into a venue. It fills hotels, moves people through restaurants and transport systems, supports creators and vendors, and gives the city another annual event with national pull.

The Cape Town edition also benefits from the city’s growing film and creative industries. This year’s event included attention around international productions filmed locally, including Netflix’s live-action One Piece project, which has been connected to Cape Town’s film economy.

For fans, the move means the 2027 event should feel larger and easier to move through. For exhibitors and partners, it creates more space to build stands and activations. For the city, it keeps a high-visibility event growing inside the CBD.

Ticket details are expected later through official channels, with Howler previously identified as the likely ticketing platform.

Comic Con Cape Town has now become part of the city’s annual events calendar. The 2027 move to CTICC 1 shows that the event is not standing still. It is growing with its audience.
