Western Cape detectives are investigating a triple murder in Langa after three adult men were found dead with gunshot wounds at a braai stand in Chief Albert Luthuli Street.

SAPS has opened a triple murder investigation after three men were shot dead in Langa on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, detectives from the Serious and Violent Crime Unit are investigating the shooting, which happened at a braai stand in Chief Albert Luthuli Street.

SAPS said officers who were on patrol responded to reports of a shooting in the area at about 15:45. When police arrived, they found the bodies of three adult men. All three had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. SAPS has not confirmed a motive, and no arrests had been announced at the time of writing.

Police have also not yet identified the suspects publicly.

The Langa shooting has added to concern over a violent weekend in parts of Cape Town, after another triple murder was reported in Lower Crossroads. NovaNews / City Vision reported that six people died in two separate triple murder shootings in Lower Crossroads and Langa over the weekend.

In the Lower Crossroads case, three men were reportedly gunned down while sitting at a fruit and vegetable stall outside a residence in Ntloyiya Street. SAPS spokesperson Colonel André Traut was quoted as saying that three unidentified suspects approached the premises and opened fire before fleeing.

Police said the motive in that case was also still under investigation.

Although SAPS has not publicly linked the Lower Crossroads and Langa shootings, the two incidents have raised concern because both involved multiple victims being attacked in public spaces over the same weekend.

In Langa, the shooting scene was a braai stand, a type of public meeting point that often forms part of daily community life. That detail makes the attack especially disturbing for people who live and work in the area.

A community leader in Langa, Moses Gwija, told NovaNews / City Vision that the triple murder was shocking and unusual for the area. He said the community did not want to speculate about the motive and would allow law enforcement agencies to conduct their investigation.

He also called for a stronger police presence.

The concern from community leaders reflects a wider fear in many Cape Town communities. When shootings happen in public spaces, the effect goes beyond the immediate victims. Traders, commuters, children, families and workers can all feel less safe in places that should be part of normal daily life.

For Langa, the location of the attack matters.

Chief Albert Luthuli Street is not an isolated rural road. It is within a lived community where people move between homes, shops, transport points and social spaces. A shooting at a public braai stand therefore affects more than one crime scene. It creates fear in a place where people usually gather.

SAPS has appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

Members of the public who can assist the investigation are urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submit information anonymously through the MySAPS mobile application.

The police appeal is important because multiple-suspect public shootings can be difficult to investigate without witness cooperation, CCTV, vehicle information or community tip-offs. Even small details may help detectives establish what happened before and after the attack.

Useful information could include suspicious vehicles seen near the area, people leaving the scene, possible getaway routes, earlier arguments, threats, or any known tension involving the victims.

Cape Town News is not naming the victims because SAPS had not released their identities in the official statement reviewed for this article.

The investigation is now expected to focus on identifying the suspects, establishing whether the attack was targeted, and determining whether it was linked to any wider pattern of violence.

At this stage, police have not confirmed whether the shooting was gang-related, linked to extortion, connected to a personal dispute, or part of another criminal motive. Until SAPS confirms more, those possibilities remain unverified and should not be treated as fact.

That caution is important.

Cape Town has many violent crime stories where early rumours spread faster than verified information. In a triple murder case, speculation can place witnesses, families and communities at further risk. It can also damage the investigation.

What is confirmed is serious enough: three men were shot dead in a public area, the suspects are unknown, the motive is unknown, and detectives are asking for help.

The wider policing concern is that Cape Town has seen several multi-victim shootings in recent months. These incidents place pressure on SAPS, community policing structures and public safety teams because they create fear quickly and often lead to calls for more visible policing.

The Lower Crossroads and Langa shootings also show how violence in public spaces can affect small business areas and informal community economies. Fruit stalls, braai stands and local traders are not only commercial points. They are also social spaces where people gather, work and support families.

When those places become crime scenes, communities lose more than a sense of safety. They lose trust in ordinary public life.

For now, SAPS has confirmed that the Langa matter remains under investigation. No arrests have been announced, and no motive has been confirmed.

Cape Town News will monitor the case for updates, including arrests, court appearances, victim identification where officially released, and any further SAPS appeal for information.
