Few artists have left a musical legacy as powerful, political, and deeply human as Bob Marley. Decades after his voice first carried messages of unity, freedom, and resistance across the world, his music still fills dancefloors, festivals, and city streets. And this weekend, that spirit arrives in the heart of Cape Town.
Cape Town’s nightlife scene is preparing for a reggae takeover this Sunday as music lovers, festival goers, and weekend revellers head to Long Street for what organisers promise will be one of the city’s most uplifting live music experiences this month.
The Bob Marley Tribute Concert, headlined by One Drop Band, will take place at Sgt Pepper in Cape Town’s central business district, bringing together live musicians, selectors, vocalists, and reggae enthusiasts for a night dedicated to one of music’s most iconic voices.
Located on Long Street, one of Cape Town’s most recognised entertainment corridors, Sgt Pepper has become a regular host for themed live music events, and organisers believe Sunday’s tribute could attract one of the strongest reggae crowds of the season.
According to event organisers, the evening has been designed to capture what they describe as the true spirit of reggae, love, peace, rhythm, and community.
Guests can expect live performances of timeless classics including Is This Love, Africa Unite, Three Little Birds, and One Love, alongside DJ sets, MC performances, and what organisers describe as authentic island energy.
Doors officially open at six on Sunday evening, with the celebration continuing into the early hours of Monday morning.
Tickets are currently available through Quicket from seventy rand, with organisers confirming that the event is strictly for over eighteens only.
Cape Town’s live entertainment sector continues to show strong post-pandemic recovery, with themed music events, independent performances, and cultural nights increasingly drawing both locals and international visitors back into the city after dark.
For venues on Long Street, events like this are about more than entertainment.
They are also about economic activity, hospitality traffic, and keeping Cape Town’s nightlife culture alive.
And for reggae fans this weekend, the message may be simple.
One love, one city, one unforgettable night.
