  • Weekend SAPS crackdown also targeted illegal firearms
  • Bellville suspect arrested with controlled medicine and cash

Police operations across Cape Town led to multiple arrests over the weekend, including the arrest of a Tafelsig woman accused of attacking officers during an anti-crime raid in Mitchells Plain as authorities intensified enforcement operations targeting drugs, illegal firearms and organised criminal activity.

The South African Police Service confirmed that officers attached to Mitchells Plain SAPS were carrying out crime prevention patrols when they received information regarding suspected drug-related activity at a property in Guava Street, Tafelsig.

According to police, members quickly responded to the information and searched the premises, where officers allegedly discovered a quantity of dagga together with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Authorities say the twenty-nine-year-old woman allegedly became aggressive during the operation and confronted officers while they were carrying out their duties.

Police subsequently arrested the suspect on charges linked to allegedly assaulting police officers, as well as dealing in dagga and dagga-related products.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court once formal charges have been processed.

The arrest formed part of a wider weekend crime crackdown conducted across various parts of Cape Town as SAPS continued focusing on high-risk areas affected by drugs, violent crime and illegal firearms.

Police also confirmed that several firearms were confiscated during separate enforcement operations carried out across the metro over the weekend.

In another incident connected to the broader enforcement campaign, Public Order Police officers arrested a forty-four-year-old Zimbabwean national in Bellville after allegedly discovering controlled medicine in his possession during patrol operations.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said officers became suspicious after observing what appeared to be a transaction between the suspect and another individual in the area.

After conducting a search, officers allegedly discovered twenty-seven bottles of cough mixture together with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on charges related to the handling and sale of controlled medication.

Police say operations targeting drugs, illegal firearms and criminal activity will continue across the metro as authorities maintain pressure on organised crime networks and high-risk areas throughout Cape Town.
