Long before streaming playlists, digital downloads and smartphone speakers, there was a voice that changed popular music forever, a voice that could fill stadiums, stop crowds in their tracks and turn a simple ballad into a global anthem, and this week that unmistakable energy returns to the Western Cape as one of South Africa’s most ambitious orchestral tribute productions prepares to bring the music, charisma and timeless magic of Elvis Presley back to life in the heart of the Cape Winelands.
Music lovers across the Western Cape are in for a rare blend of nostalgia, theatre and live orchestral performance this week, as A Tribute to Elvis officially arrives in Stellenbosch for a special three-night run that promises to transport audiences back to the golden era of rock and roll.
Presented as part of the South African City Orchestras franchise, the production has already built a strong reputation after its sold-out debut in Bloemfontein in twenty twenty-two, where audiences responded with standing ovations and glowing reviews.
Now the production makes its Western Cape debut, bringing the music of Elvis Presley to one of the province’s most scenic entertainment settings.
The performances will take place at Lourensford Wine Cellar, a venue well known for combining world-class acoustics, mountain views and an intimate concert atmosphere that has become increasingly popular among local music audiences.
At the centre of the production are performers André Terblanche and Louis Loock, two experienced South African vocalists who will take audiences through many of Elvis Presley’s most iconic hits, from energetic early rock and roll classics to some of his most emotional ballads.
Backing them on stage will be the Stellenbosch City Orchestra, adding a rich orchestral dimension to songs that have entertained generations of fans across the world.
Organisers say the production has been designed to appeal not only to lifelong Elvis fans, but also to younger audiences discovering the King’s music for the first time.
The combination of live strings, brass, percussion and theatrical staging is expected to create a high-energy concert experience that balances nostalgia with modern production values.
And for the Cape’s growing live entertainment scene, productions like this continue to show how the Winelands is becoming an increasingly important cultural destination beyond food, wine and tourism.
