Cape Town’s vibrant cultural scene continues to attract both locals and visitors, with immersive dining experiences offering more than just food, but a journey through African heritage.
Two standout venues, GOLD Restaurant and Spyced Restaurant, are offering curated cultural dining experiences that combine traditional cuisine with live entertainment and storytelling.
GOLD Restaurant, located in Green Point, presents a 14 dish African feast designed as a “taste safari” across the continent. Guests are treated to a combination of flavours from different regions of Africa, with the option to order as much as they like from the set menu. The evening experience is enhanced by live performances, including drumming, dancing, storytelling, and Mali puppet displays, creating a multi-sensory cultural event.
An optional djembe drumming session is available before dinner, allowing guests to engage directly with African musical traditions as part of the overall experience.
Spyced Restaurant, based in Bo-Kaap, offers a different but equally immersive experience focused on Cape Malay heritage. Visitors can take part in a hands-on cooking class led by Fayruza Abrahams, where they prepare a 3 course meal while learning about traditional cooking techniques and cultural history.
For evening guests, Spyced also hosts a 12 dish Cape Malay inspired dinner accompanied by live jazz, blending culinary tradition with a relaxed musical setting.
Both experiences typically run for between 3 and 4 hours and are available throughout the week. While meals and entertainment are included, additional costs may apply for drinks and optional extras. Bookings can be made through the official GOLD and Spyced restaurant platforms, with both venues welcoming families and offering a unique way to experience Cape Town’s cultural diversity.
