  • Continues to draw millions of visitors each year

Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain has once again been thrust into the global spotlight after receiving a nomination for Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards.

The nomination, announced by the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, places one of South Africa’s most recognisable natural landmarks back among the continent’s top tourism contenders. Widely regarded as the “Oscars of the travel industry,” the World Travel Awards recognise excellence across global tourism and hospitality sectors.

Voting officially opened at the end of March and will run through to mid-July, with the outcome determined by public participation. Both local and international voters are eligible to cast their votes, making public support a key factor in determining the winner.

Table Mountain’s continued presence in the awards reflects its enduring global appeal. Recognised as one of the New7Wonders of Nature, the landmark has previously secured the title of Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction multiple times between 2014 and 2022, reinforcing its status as a flagship destination for visitors to the Western Cape.

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway remains central to the visitor experience, providing safe and efficient access to the summit while offering panoramic views of the city, coastline, and surrounding landscape. The attraction draws millions of visitors annually, contributing significantly to Cape Town’s tourism economy.

Officials have described the nomination as a moment of pride, highlighting Table Mountain’s role not only as a major tourism asset but also as a symbol of South Africa’s natural heritage. The recognition comes at a time when global tourism competition is intensifying, placing increased emphasis on destination visibility and international appeal.

As the voting period continues, the nomination presents another opportunity for Cape Town to strengthen its position on the global tourism stage, with supporters encouraged to rally behind the landmark in the final selection process.
